Detail - JO WHALEY AND HENREY TROUP
I like the detail in Henrey Troup's because the sand is very clear and defined. I like the way the colour has been desaturated to make this image look very detailed and shadowy.
Jo Whaley's photo looks very detailed on the dragonfly but it also doesn't look like a photo and I like this effect on it.

John Edmark's work is gifs and a gif is a moving picture but it only moves for a couple of seconds. When Edmarks work moves it makes the texture really stand out and its very clear.

Project proposal.
The sub theme i have chosen is Sky. I intend to investigate photos and photographers who photograph different colours and sunsets/sunrise in the sky. This will help me pin-point my idea and clearly have in mind what my themes will be. I will take photos of sunsets/sunrises to try achieve pictures that have different orange colours. I will then use Photoshop to brighten the vibrance and contrast etc. This will help get a clear crisp image.
The context of my work is based on Doug Aiken. I was influenced by his four photos in his New Oppostion, they show four different pictures which reveal a different meaning in my eyes. I think the photos show insights of 4 different countries. My ideas were describe by the way he photographs landscapes and the colours. I am also influenced the way he presents his shoot in four collages all at a different angle. This makes the photo look like its all one.
The main formal elements i am interested in exploring further are rearranging my four pictures into one and changing the angles so it emphasises and makes you really look at the pictures to concentrate. I also want to try create a texture of smoothness in the sky and clouds in my pictures. I want to try create a warm texture.
The mood in my work i want to try and create is a calm, warm mood which makes people feel relaxed when looking at it. I will try achieve this by using Photoshop to turn the contrast up and vibrance so the colours stand out in my picture, this will also make my picture clearer and crisp to look at. I want to do this so when people look at my photo they feel relaxed and warm and also feel intrigued to the surroundings. Overall it is a positive mood.
The techniques i am using are, taking a clear photo of sunset/sunrise then editing it on Photoshop and playing around with the contrast and vibrance to achieve a clear, colourful sunset/sunrise picture. I will then put the same four photos together but at different angles, this will make my photos look unique and interesting to look at. I will use a hexagon to format my photos into a collage and then duplicate each small image so it makes a hexagon or octogon collage.

Critical analysis
This photo has been produced by Doug Aitken and he has took 4 different pictures of a landscape at a angle then used Photoshop to put the four photos together. The angles he has used is diagonal to the opposite one so it makes it look like one photo. I like this photo above because its clear and focused and interesting to look at. Doug is an American multi media artist. He was born in California in 1968 and he works from photography to print media and sculpture. He has won many prizes for his work and publishing books.
I also like the way all the four photos are rocks. These four photos all represent texture and each photo has a different texture. The overall mood of this photo is a adventurous mood. I think this photographer has thought to capture different types of landscape. I looks like each photo is symbolising a different country like Antarctica, dessert and the UK. His influences may be to capture different types of scenery and present them in a creative way.
The process of this shoot is taking four unique, creative landscape pictures then put them toegther in a collage. Doug may also turn the vibrance up and play around with the contrast etc. When the contrast is turned up and played around with, it will make it look more clear and crisp.
He may of chose to photograph creative landscapes to show the different scenery around the country.
The title of this photo is 'New Opposition' This may reveal that from looking at this photo it shows you different perspectives and oppositions to look at things. Each segment in the photo is a different colour too, which shows how different each photo it.

I think you have related your work well with the artist you have chosen. you have done good research into the photographer. next time I think you should add more information about the mood of his work and how it makes you feel. your first photo-shoot is good but next time you could choose more of an adventurous scene than out you window. your editing work had been done well as it shows a clear relation to your photographer.

For my first shoot, I really like this as it shows landscape and sunsets all in one which Aitken also captures. To improve this I want to use gimp or Photoshop to put them in four series collage so it links to Doug Aitkens work even more.

In my second photoshoot, I have photographed colourful sunsets and skys which links with Aitken style. I like the way I have included the treetops and bushes in the pictures because it shows nature. To make it even better I want to use photoshop to turn the contrast and vibrancy up so its more colourful and clearer.

These shoots I have brightened the vibrancy and contrast so my photos represent colour and this effects the mood of my photo.
I use one photo then duplicate it into four sides of the photo so it makes a four collage like Aitken.

Www: Rosie, I like the content of your work looking at landscapes near your home and using the rooftops as the , and that you were interested in recording the sunsets. Ebi: You need to experiment with different images of different locations rather than using the same one four times over. Also, the sky should be on the outside of your 4 images that are placed together. Try to get better lit images by taking photographs during different parts of the sunrise and sunset.

On my next shoot I will explore around local fields and woods to capture sunsets in the treetops. I want to try and get out and be more creative in my next shoots. I am also going to edit my pictures in the four format at different angles. I also want to try go outside and do photo-shoots around 4pm because this is when the sunsets come out and the sun has a different tone of orangey yellow rather than a bright harsh yellow which is the daylight sun. This will also help with making the photos more lit up and show the colour.

PHILIP Hilpert
Critical Analysis
Philip Hilpert is a 25 year old German photographer. He photographs a variety of aspects of nature. Each photograph shows different bits of nature, but in most of them it shows the sky, sunset/sunrise and colours of the sky. The mood of his photos are overall positive and convey feelings that make people feel adventurous and postive thoughts. I like the way the photographer has shown crisp colours in the photos. In the sunset photos it shows the sunset and it looks like the photographer has brightened up the vibrance to make it look more crisp and clear. These photos look quite simple and easy to re create. The process of this is finding a landscape which represents colorful sky then going into Photoshop and playing around with the contrast, vibrance etc. This will make the photo look more clear and colourful. Hilpert photos look really colourful and i like this about them, it portrays a positive mood. He uses many formal elements in his work which include, texture. The texture of his work is smooth, flat and opaque. The adjectives help create the positive mood. Another formal element used is colour, a lot of colour is used, it makes the photo look warm, natural and calm. This also creates the mood. The perspective of his photos are mostly one-point. In my own work i want to try re create a similar shoot to his but interpret Doug Aitkens work too. I am going to take photos of nature and sky then put it in the form of Aitkens to make it influenced to both photographers. The way he photographs different parts of nature could be to show different parts of the world but in a photograph format and show it in more detail. It might also be showing about his experiences and journeys. Most of his photos have a very calming mood and this is created by the colour of the photos being calm warm colours. The content of his work, like rivers etc are very calming too.

WWW: I like these pictures because it relates to Philip Hilbert and it shows different colors of the sunset and around the beach. I like the photoshopped versions because its more colorful and shows the horizon on the beach. These photos represent colours which is what I was aiming for.
Ebi: I could of linked it in with Doug Aitken, my other photographer, and put it in a format of four pictures in one. If I used Photoshop to edit my photos into a collage it would boost my grade up as its experimental.

Shoot 2 inspired by Philip hilbert
In this shoot I tried recreating Philip Hilbert's work. I did this by finding a landscape which presented colour, I like some of the photos because you can from a long way out and see all the greenery. I don't like how bland and dull it is so in my final piece I want to try photograph something with green and land in but also more colour so maybe a brightly colour sunset, this will brighten my photos up. I could also try editing the photos to make them more bright and lively.
edited photos
This shoot is at Kelston Round hill and i was planning on getting some photos that shown a sunset display but as the weather was foggy and raining, my shoot was very dull. In the future i want to experiment with old shoots to boost my grade up. Although it was a dull shoot, I edited my photos so it looked more brighter. I did this by brightening up the contrast and saturation.
WWW- I have done a shoot that represents color and landscape.
EBI -it was a little more interesting to look at at instead of just plain green
In my opinion this a very weak shoot of mine as it is completely different to all my other shoots and hasn't got much link with my photographers.

Teacher Feedback AO2: Experiments February 2017 Grade: Www: Rosie you have produced a good range of images that look at the sunsets as discussed in class that relate well to your chosen sub theme. The contrast of dark buildings goes well against the bright colours of the sunsets. Ebi: You need to spend the next few weeks editing these in Photoshop. Look at the angles the photographer uses in order to get a better understanding of what they do. Look at the square they produce by joining the 4 pictures together. Hoow do you think that is achieved?

To improve my work I want to use my photos from recent photo-shoot and go into photo shop and put it into four collage that links with Doug Aitken as then it will have more links to my photographers.
I think Doug Aitken achieves the four image in one by getting four different photos onto one photoshop then resizing the image so it goes into four.

SHOOTS LINKED TO BOTH PHOTOGRAPHERS (DOUG AITKEN AND PHILIP HILBERT)
In this shoot I took some photo-shoots from the past and made them into a hexagon collage. The first one was my first attempt and it is a little bit messy and doesn't all join together but I really like the colours on it. The second one is a little bit better because all the corners are together and join up to make a hexagon. Next time I want to try different shapes like Octagon.
I also want to try redo my first attempt of collage.
Both of these photos link in with my two photographers, Doug Aitken and Philip Hilbert.

improved collage
This photo I have improved from last shoot so its a more defined shape and you can clearly see its a hexagon. I wanted to make this photo better as I like the colouring and contrast on it but before the photo was very messy and uneven.
PHOTOSHOOT INSPIRED BY dOUG AITKEN AND PHILIP HILBERT
I tried different photos with different shapes which makes it look more defined in a shape. The first photo isn't joined up much on the corners which makes it look messy. Both photos are very fuzzy and pixelated which makes the whole photo look blurry. Next time I am going to upload straight to the computer to stop it from being blurry.
The end photo is quite interesting and colorful but it hasn't got much landscape to it which is what my second photographer captures. This photo only really has links to Doug Aitken.

project proposal
Content
In my recent experimental photo shoots, i have been exploring with different shapes like hexagons and octagons to format my photos in. Before i put the photo in the shape i play around with the contrast and vibrancy so it portrays colours. My focal point in most my photos are the ground in the original picture eg the sea one above the focal point is the harbour/boat. I also want to find some photos that convey brightly coloured sunsets so it makes the mood feel positive.
Context
I am influenced by Doug Aitkens work and try to replicate his ideas as well as interpreting Philip Hilbert's ideas too. I do the format of Doug Aitkens but create a photo like Hilbert's. I brighten up the colour so it is linked with Hilberts and also take a photo of Landscape. In Doug Aitkens work I believe he use the four photo format so try show different aspects of nature in different places. Philip Hilberts work shows off landscapes and colours at the same time.
Process
First i open up a document with the main photo then open up a second one with a shape like a hexagon template. I then use the lasso tool and cut a triangle in the part of the photo i want, then i drag it across to the template shape. re size it and place it in the hexagon using the sides of triangle in the hexagon. I duplicate this for each one. I make sure each triangle is fitted together properly so the shape is clear and defined. I do this in Photoshop.
Mood
The mood i am trying to create is a adventurous, positive mood. I do this by using lots of colours in my photos and taking photos that are outdoors and adventourous. I also want to try create a warm colour orange colours which links with mood as if it was dark colours it would be a negative mood. I like the orangey colours in the sunset so I might use the brightness/contrast button in photoshop to change it around.
Potential final piece
Above, I have two photos I have been working on for my potential final piece. I started off with a black background and didn't edit the photo very well, I have some triangles not meeting the others and some corners don't join up which stands out because of the black background. To improve it I re-started with the same photo but made it more defined and make sure all the edges are together so it doesn't look messy. I made sure the tree and landscape is on the same line too so it looks better. I also changed the black background to white as I think it stands out more. In my final piece I am hoping to change the vibrancy and contrast.
Final piece
final evaluation
The critical elements of my work is colour and texture. I show colour in my work by turning up the vibrancy and contrast so the sunset looks orange and warm. This helps portray the warm, calm, subtle mood. Another critical elements is texture. I show texture where the trees are because they are jagged and rough whereas the sky around it is smooth. Another critical element of my work is shape and i present this in a octagon shape. Inside the octagon shape there is triangles which fit together to make the overall shape.
Content.
The main theme of my work is about Creative Landscape.
In the image there is a "private" sign in the middle with a tree and sunset with it. This links with creative landscape because its a field landscape but the orange sunset makes it more interesting and creative. The colours in the photo also conveys creativity because its more rare colours.
This relates to my theme because the landscape is interesting as it has a sunset in it and a sign. The brightly coloured sunset makes it more creative because it mkes the middle stand out. I chose the photograph with a sign in it because it showed it being more realistic.
The work was inspired by artists 1 Doug Aitken and artist 2 Philip Hilbert.
The idea behind my work was inspired by firstly Doug Aitken because i wanted to try create a image which was creative and have a collage to it. I was also inspired by Philip Hilbert because he photographs sunsets with landscape and i wanted to try recreate a photo like this. So i combined both and took a photo of a sign, tree and sunset in the style of Hilbert and then put it into the format like Aitken.
Form
I used these formal elements because the link together and help portray the mood I was trying to create which was a warm positive mood. I also used these formal elements because colour helps the focal point to stand out and makes the viewer look straight at it then gradually adjust there eyes to the outside of the photo.
These were inspired by Doug Aitken because in his work he has a focal point where the four pictures meet and my focal point is very similar.
Mood:
The mood in my work is a warm, calm mood which i wanted to create because it goes with my photo as my photo is meant to be a calm landscape so i wanted to colour and overall image to have this effect.
I created a warm, calm mood/atmosphere by using Photoshop to turn the vibrancy and contrast up. This will make the image have a more crisp, orange colour which is a calming colour.
I made the work by firstly having the plain image, then using the polygonal lasso tool to cut a accurate triangle of the sign and tree out of the image then drag it over to a new document where a octagon template is. I then put the triangle on the template so it fits then duplicate it for each one.
