PERSONAL INVESTIGATION
Movement is when you take a photo during movement of an object. Motion blur is frequently used to show a sense of speed You can achieve this by using shutter speed. Movement in a photo is usually quite blurry on the background but focused on one main thing.
Portrait photography is when its a photo of a person or a group of people. That displays the expression, personality and mood of the subject. It shows a persons facial features usually.
Mechanical Photography is when you take a photo of mechanical things and add a filters.
Colour is when its a photo and its has main colours and that is what the person is focused on and enhanced the colour. Colour in photos can help present the works mood like when the photo is brightly coloured it tends to have a more positive mood whereas dull colours in photos makes it have a negative mood.
Urban Exploration is photos of an old abandoned building that makes it look shabby, old and urban.
Colour
Colour photographers.
William Eggleston: is a American photographer and his work is mainly focused on colour photography. He was born in July 1939 age 76. In each of these photos there is one main colour used throughout the photo. I like the way he concentrates on one main colour throughout the photo and this helps gives it a warm tone.
Here are three examples of his work:

William eggleston photo evaluation
This photo is one of my favorites of William Eggleston's because if you glance at the picture its mostly red but when you concentrated there are other colors but subtly most of the objects in the photo is red (her hair, bottles in background, windows) Another thing that makes it red is the sunlight reflecting, it looks like its a sunset sun which is more pinky/red at night than the mid day sun which is yellow. This picture really stands out for me because it reminds me of Urban Exploration but also colour photography. I also like the way the photo is an older photo an makes me more urban.
Techniques and ideas for my photoshoots
- Use bold colours so it stands out. For a good effect stick to three colours max.
- Use subtle pastel colours, it doesn't have to be strong colours it can also be a subtle colour photography piece.
- Use one colour for the background for bold effects of colour.
- Colour balance - for a mellow calm piece stick to colours that are similar throughout the photo.
- Use contrast to gain attention.
- For my shoot i am going to take pictures of some colour flowers on a white background then enhance the colour to make it more brighter.
sUBTLE COLOUR PHOTOGRAPHY
First shoot
Evaluation
In these 3 pictures I think one of the things i did well was focusing on main colour in each picture. E.G on the last photograph the main colour in the photo is pink and its well focused, but to improve it next time i will try either use a blank background or edit the background to be a dull colour to enhance the main colour. Or i could of brightened the colours on each photo.
For my next shoot; I want to do a more pin-pointed photo of one flower so it reflects more of a certain detailed flower like my photographer.

Second photoshoot
Evaluation
In this shoot i focused on a bunch of flowers which have multiple vibrant colours, i also enhanced the colour on the last picture to see how much difference it would make. I think the colours in these photos really stand out because i used flash and it also dulled the background. To improve i could put a sheet of black paper behind to make colour even more vibrant/bright.
My favourite 3 peices are these -

For my next shoot i am going to take photos of some sort of nature or flowers but make sure the background is black/neutral to make the colour stand out more.
SHOOT 3
Evaluation
In this shoot i focused on flowers again and i waited for a sunny day to take pictures so the lighting would be natural. I like that the sun shows the bright colours of the petals and in one of the photos you can see a bug in the flower very clearly. To make this shoot better i think i could of had a neutral background like i said in my other evaluation and make sure the photo is focused first.

edited photos of current shoot
WWW: This photo presents a lot of colour and shows different aspects of the flower. I edited some photos so it presents colour and makes it brighter but then also edited some photos so it is desaturated. The desaturated photos make it look more defined and crisp. It portrays the texture and mood.
Photographer - martin klimas
Martin Klimas is a German photographer who mainly concentrates on capturing bright colours mid way through air on a speaker. He also focuses on shattering and falling photography. He takes many picture of vases being smashed, pain on top a speaker and other ornaments mid smashed. But i chose this photographer because all he colours in most pieces are brightly coloured and stand out with a dark background. When it has a dark background it makes the colour really stand out and the view will most likely concentrate and look further within the colour in the photo.
My favourite piece of these three is the first one - the exploding rose. I like this one because it really shows all the colours and you can see every bit that has exploding off because its a white background.
For my next shoot I want to have a white or black background like Martin Klimer so all the colours stand out.

shoot 4
In this shoot I used Pixlr to duplicate the layer then desaturate the picture. I then used the eraser and different brushes to choose what to keep the colour on. I chose to keep the flower colours then the background is black and white. I did this because it makes the flower colours stand out. Some of the pieces i kept it original and didn't edit it at all because the background was plane and not much colour. Next time i think i should more carefully put colour on the flower as its not straight and some things are out of the lines. Also i have to make sure all my photos are clearly in focus. I could also use a more bright coloured flower.
These are my favourite pieces and could be used as a possible final piece.
Final piece
This is my final photography piece of Personal Investigation. I like this one because having the background black and white and the colour in the middle, it makes the colour look more vibrant. It also makes it look like the flowers have been edited on. The main focal point of this photo is the purple flower. I chose this as my final piece because i like the way i used photoshop to desaturate the colours a part from the flower, this is the focal point. I also like the way my hand is in it holding the flower.
